My son wants to make a website for me. What’s the difference between what he can do and what you do?
It’s important that your website design is industry standard. The coding behind the website pages needs to be understood by search engines and browsers, and their requirements are always changing. We ensure your website displays properly in different browsers (such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Blackberry, i-Phone and Safari). We build only responsive sites so they display properly on mobile devices like phones and tablets. We follow your web traffic statistics in order to advise you on your marketing and suggest ways to improve it. We offer free support for WordPress sites. Availability is also a consideration when you want your site updated – our updates are generally done the same day.
I want a website and don’t have much money. Should I buy one of those ready-made templates?
We strongly recommend no. Ready-made themes whether free or purchased can be problematic and dangerous to the future of your site. Our advice is to invest your time preparing content for your site and marketing your site afterwards – both stages take a lot of energy and commitment. If you’re on a strict budget, we’ll build you a simple site, set up properly and securely, so you can concentrate on developing material for it. How much does a website cost?
We would love to have a stock answer to this question, but it’s hard to say without reviewing what you need. If you provide the following information — the number of pages, the number of images, the general type of site (blog, store, photo gallery) — we’ll be able to provide an estimate. We pride ourselves on doing an excellent job on any site of any budget and we’ll always give you a realistic estimate before we begin. You might take advantage of our one-hour free consultation to discuss your options on longer projects. Read more about why a consultation is important.
What’s the best way to manage my website budget?
Your website is like a box of brochures ready to be delivered. By far the most neglected aspects of any website project are marketing and search engine optimization. Ongoing work is needed to keep your site active and competitive. First invest in a solidly-built site that meets all standards for search engines. After that there’s no limit to the amount of time you could devote to social media, traditional advertising and Internet marketing. Try to add new content at least every four weeks.
The design of your site is important for its initial appeal, but it doesn’t need to have animations and special effects. In most cases, people are not looking to be entertained when they visit your site — they are seeking information and they want to find it easily. We make sure your navigation and content are easily accessible.
What’s involved in building a website?
First we meet in person or talk by email or phone. It’s great to see examples of websites you like so we can get an idea of what you’re envisioning. Set aside photos, your logo, text, videos and other material you want to feature.
We mockup a page design with a few variations so you can approve the look and feel. When approved, the design is completely re-made in a “active” version with programming. We can take photos, source photos, or purchase the rights to any photos you might be missing. We can write or edit your text. Databases, registration forms, animations and online stores are created and linked in, with lots of back and forth approvals from you. During search engine optimization, we adjust all the keywords, alt tags and page titles to ensure good results. The site is thoroughly tested for different browsers and versions of browsers as well as mobile devices.
