The first post in WordPress is often entered as “Hello, World!” The tradition originated decades ago with the C programming language – it was the first phrase people learned to code.
You can change the title and add content to this post. Go to your blog’s website address and login. An administration page will open and you’ll see a menu running down the left side. Follow these instructions, with reference to the red numbers in the picture below.

1. In the main menu on the left side, click on All Posts. The title of the first post will appear.
2. Hover your mouse over the blue title for the post. This will bring up a mini-menu under the title.
3. Hover your mouse over Edit and click. The post page will open. Insert your cursor in the top space and change the title. Insert your cursor in the larger space below and type some content. Click on Preview to see how it looks.
4. When you want the post to be visible, click Publish, a blue button on the right side of the page. Note: This will change to the word Update for future editing.
If you forget to save and the post disappears, click on the main menu heading Posts again. You’ll see your first post has been saved as a draft. Continue with steps 2-4.
In the public view of your website, the titles of the posts will appear in Archives (by month) in the sidebar of your theme. Read how to change the order of your posts.
You can also add a widget to make a list of Recent Posts in the sidebar. To make a list of Recent Posts show in the sidebar, go to Appearance/Widgets. Click down on the widget for “Recent Posts” and drag it over to the right side below the words Primary Widget Area. Then drag it vertically to list it above or below “Archives”.
